Show a 360° tour offline on Meta Quest — without installing an app
Trade fair with no Wi-Fi, a basement viewing, a client office behind a corporate firewall. Download the tour in the Quest browser first, then present it with the headset fully offline.
The short answer
To show a 360° virtual tour offline on a Meta Quest you do not need a headset app. Open the tour in the Meta Quest browser while you still have Wi-Fi, switch on the Offline toggle to download it to the headset, and bookmark vimmersa.com/gallery/offline-projects. With Wi-Fi off, that bookmark opens your downloaded tours from the headset’s own storage and Enter VR still works. No Horizon Store install, no USB-C cable, no SideQuest.
Three steps, about five minutes
Download on the headset itself
Put the headset on, open the Quest browser, sign in at vimmersa.com and switch on the Offline toggle on the tour you want. The download has to happen on the Quest — a browser cache is per-device, so downloading on your laptop does not put the tour in the headset.
Bookmark the offline library
Bookmark vimmersa.com/gallery/offline-projects in the Quest browser. That page lists your downloaded tours and opens them straight from local storage, so it is the one link you need with no connection.
Go offline and present
Turn Wi-Fi off, open the bookmark, pick the tour and press Enter VR. Navigation between scenes, floor plans and hotspots all run locally. Nothing is fetched from our servers.
The one rule that catches people out: the download must happen on the headset. Browser storage is per-device, so a tour downloaded on your laptop stays on your laptop.
Why a browser download beats a headset app
No app install
It runs in the Meta Quest browser. There is nothing to publish to the Horizon Store, nothing for your client to install, and no store account needed on a loaner headset.
No cable, no sideloading
No USB-C transfer, no SideQuest, no copying an exported folder into a Documents directory on the device.
Same link on every device
The same tour downloads to a laptop or a phone browser the same way, so the fallback when a headset misbehaves at a trade fair is simply someone’s phone.
Storage the browser will not silently drop
The download asks the browser for persistent storage, so a tour saved at the office is still there weeks later at the client meeting.
Update by re-downloading
Edit the tour online, flip the toggle again, and the headset copy is refreshed. There is no re-export and no new build to move around.
Works for guests too
Anyone you share a tour with can download it on their own device — they do not need your account to present it offline.

Content that is not downloaded is hidden while you are offline rather than rendered as a broken placeholder, and everything returns the moment the same tour is opened with a connection.

Can I show a 360° virtual tour on a Meta Quest without an internet connection?

Do I need to install an app on the Quest?
No. Vimmersa runs in the Meta Quest browser, so there is no Horizon Store app to install and nothing to sideload. That also means no USB-C cable, no SideQuest and no copying an exported tour folder into a directory on the device.
Can I download the tour on my laptop and transfer it to the headset?
No, and this is the most common mistake. Offline storage belongs to the browser profile that downloaded it, so a tour saved on your laptop lives on your laptop. Do the download in the Quest browser, on the headset that will present it.
What exactly is stored offline?
The 360° panoramas including the resolution variants the headset actually requests, hotspot navigation between scenes, floor plans, 2D views and nadir patches. Animated panoramas, retouches, snapshots, 360° spins and masterplans are not part of the offline download and are hidden while you are offline rather than shown broken.
Does it work for 3D models and Gaussian splats offline?
No. The offline download covers 360° tours. A project that contains 3D models or Gaussian splats will still download and present its panoramas offline, but the 3D content needs a connection. If offline 3D or BIM walkthroughs are the requirement, this is not the right tool for that part of the job.
Will the download still be there in a month?
The download asks the browser for persistent storage, which stops the browser from evicting it as disposable cache. Browsers grant this from engagement heuristics rather than guaranteeing it, so for a presentation that matters, open the tour once on the headset the day before — that also verifies the headset copy in a few seconds.
Can my client present it without a Vimmersa account?
They need to be signed in on the headset to download a tour to it, which is a one-time step; the offline library itself opens with no connection afterwards. Shared tours can be downloaded by whoever holds the link on their own device.
